Join other CTRPCVs for a morning of trimming, clipping, raking, and seeding at Josias Byles Sanctuary, one of Joshua’s Trust’s properties located on Route 44 in Ashford.  Approximately 1/4 mile east of route 89 on Route 44, it is on the north side of the road across the street from a veterinary. The property has no address, but a sign is prominently displayed at the entrance, and these are the coordinates, 41.867384, -72.150710.

Joshua’s Trust is now in the middle of creating a “pollinator pathway” at the sanctuary and is conducting work in a large field in the otherwise wooded property to encourage multi-species use. The trail crew will be using loppers to remove some invasive plants around the meadows so the flowers have the best chance possible. We’ll rake certain sections and sow the seeds. The field will have been mowed followed by some roto-tilling the week before. It is already home to monarch butterflies, something we’ll continue to encourage while also planting new ‘attracting’ plants.

Two members of the Trust will be guiding us through the process. We recommend that you bring water. If you have loppers and/or work gloves, please bring them. If you don’t have them or it slips your mind, Joshua’s Trust can provide them. We will be social distancing. Bring your mask for when working in close proximity to others. If you are inclined, bring a bagged lunch to eat on-site once the work is finished.
